About Drystead
Drystead is the plain-English UK guide to protecting a home from flooding: check your risk, choose the right protection, and recover faster if water gets in.
Why we exist
The official flood maps tell you if your home is at risk. Manufacturers and installers sell the products. In between, it's hard to find calm, independent answers to the questions people actually have: what does my house need, what should I ask before I buy, and what do I do on the night?
How we work
- Every fact links to its source, usually GOV.UK, the Environment Agency, SEPA, Natural Resources Wales, NI Direct, Flood Re or a standards body, with the date we checked it.
- We link to the official risk maps and never copy their data.
- We don't test products. Where we describe products, the specs are the manufacturer's own, with the date we checked them.
- We don't recommend insurers or tell you a product will change your premium.
- We don't give structural advice. For your home, use a property flood resilience surveyor.

Who runs it
Drystead is written by a small independent team: the Drystead team. The same team runs a few other UK sites, including Bunkerley (household readiness for power cuts and storms) and Ferncharge (portable power stations). Where one of them genuinely helps, we may link to it, and we'll always say it's ours. Our legal page has the operator details.
